Practical information

Venue 

Next generation scientists 2022 will be held at the Delta Centre of the University of Tartu.

The University of Tartu is the oldest and largest higher education institution in Estonia and has been at the centre of Estonian academic life for almost four centuries. It is ranked in the top 1.2% of the world's universities making it one of the leading universities in Northern Europe. There are approximately 13,000 students and 3000 staff that study and work in a diverse range of fields. 

The Delta building is located within 10–15 minutes' walking distance from the conference accommodation. 

 

Accommodation

Accommodation for New Phytologist next generation scientists delegates has been arranged at the Dorpat Hotel. Check-in is from 15:00 on Tuesday 19 July, with check out till 12:00 noon on Friday 22 July. Certain rooms have been specially designed for people with allergies, as well as those requiring accessible accommodation. You will be asked to indicate if you have any such requirements if your application is successful. Your accommodation booking will include a room for single occupancy and breakfast, but any other charges will be the responsibility of the delegate. 

 

Social programme/field trips

The New Phytologist next generation scientists programme includes social gatherings on each evening of the symposium that will allow delegates to network with their fellow delegates, keynote speakers, mentors and other invited guests. Refreshments will be provided. 

On Wednesday afternoon, all delegates will be invited to join a field trip, details to be confirmed.

 

Travel  

Delegates are encouraged to take out appropriate travel insurance with Covid-19 cancellation cover and to follow travel updates from their respective countries.  

Visit Estonia has information on Covid-19 and traveling to Estonia. There are currently no restrictions on entry to Estonia for people who are fully vaccinated.

Getting to Tartu 

Finnair operate a direct flight between Tartu Airport and Helsinki

 

If you are arriving into Tallinn, you can reach Tartu by bus or train. 

  • Buses from Tallinn airport go direct to Tartu from Lux Express Estonia AS, departing regularly. These buses depart from Tallinn bus terminal, stopping at Tallinn airport before continuing to Tartu. You should try and purchase your ticket in advance, as these buses can be busy. The trip from Tallinn to Tartu takes about 2.5 hours
  • From Tallinn city centre, in addition to the bus, there is a regular train service to Tartu. Express trains take about 2 hours 

 

Getting to Estonia

Tallinn Airport has regular flights from many European cities, including

  • Helsinki via Finnair
  • Frankfurt via Lufthansa
  • Amsterdam, Berlin, Brussels, Copenhagen, London, Munich, Oslo, Paris, Riga, Salzburg, Stockholm and Vilnius, via Air Baltic
  • Stockholm via SAS
  • London, Liverpool, Edinburgh, Dublin, Rome, Milan, Naples, Barcelona, Vienna and Nuremberg via Ryanair.  

 

Regular ferries run between Tallinn and Helsinki and Stockholm
