Biography

Rocío Hernández-Clemente is an Agronomist Engineer (University of Córdoba, 2005) and obtained her PhD from the University of Córdoba in 2012 (European Mention, Cum Laude, Extraordinary Doctoral Thesis Award). Her career has a strong international trajectory, including research positions at the University of Helsinki (Finland), a Marie Curie IEF fellowship at Swansea University (UK), and a Juan de la Cierva–Incorporación fellowship in Spain. She later held academic positions at Swansea University as Lecturer and Senior Lecturer in Geography. She is currently a Ramón y Cajal Researcher at the University of Córdoba (since 2022) and holds an honorary position at Swansea University. She is accredited as Full Professor since 2023.

Her research focuses on quantitative remote sensing of vegetation health and ecosystem functioning, integrating hyperspectral, thermal and LiDAR sensing, UAV platforms and radiative transfer modelling. She has published over 60 peer-reviewed papers, including journals such as Science, Nature Communications, Nature Plants and Remote Sensing of Environment, and has secured >1.4 M€ as PI/Co-PI in competitive projects while contributing to large international initiatives such as TREAD, D-TRAITS and FLUORFLIGHT.
