Biography
Les Ross graduated in Geology at Liverpool University in 1975 and thereafter completed a PGCE in secondary education at St Paul’s College Cheltenham in 1976. He then taught Geology, Geography and PE at Roby Comprehensive School, Huyton, Merseyside before joining Thornton Baker (later to be called Grant Thornton) to train as a Chartered Accountant.
He qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Grant Thornton in 1979, was made a partner in 1992 and worked at that firm until he retired in 2014. During that time Les led the restructuring departments in Manchester and Liverpool and ultimately became Office Managing Partner for the two north west offices with a total of 450 people.
Since retirement Les has a number of voluntary roles, including that of Trustee (appointed in 2016) and Treasurer (from 2022) of The New Phytologist Foundation.
