Biography

Hua Lin is a researcher at the Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden (XTBG), Chinese Academy of Sciences. Her research interests lie in thermodynamic ecology—an area that explores the relationships between temperature and the processes and functions of plants, animals, and ecosystems by investigating the connections between heat and the conversion of other forms of energy—as well as forest ecology and global change. Consequently, temperature serves as a central focus in much of her work.

One of her ongoing projects is titled “Regulation Strategies of Leaf Temperature and Thermal Safety Margins Across Four Typical Forests in Contrasting Precipitation and Thermal Biomes.” This research aims to enhance our understanding of plant thermal adaptation and thermal safety under extreme heatwaves. Additionally, she is leading efforts to establish a smart monitoring network for canopy temperature and phenology, which will enable long-term, high-precision observations of these key ecological indicators.
