New Phytologist is proud to present 'Plant cold hardiness', a new Virtual Issue introduced with a Commentary written by Guillaume Charrier.
Low temperature is a major environmental constraint limiting plant survival that has become more complex and challenging to comprehend within the context of global change. Understanding the adaptation of plants to low temperatures is thus vital for developing strategies to maintain ecosystem function and agricultural productivity.
This Virtual Issue compiles some of the key results published in New Phytologist that were presented at the 13th International Plant Cold Hardiness Seminar in Clermont-Ferrand, France, along with other recent papers on the topic. These results reflect the wide array of structural, phenological, biochemical and molecular strategies that plants have evolved to survive at subzero temperatures and the need for interdisciplinary collaborations across scales, from the molecular to ecosystem level.
We hope you enjoy the collection and we look forward to future developments in this area.
