We are pleased to announce that Qianru Liao is the winner of this year's Biogeosciences Section award for the best student presentation, sponsored by The New Phytologist Foundation, at this year's Ecological Society of America Annual Meeting. The Biogeosciences Section judged many excellent student presentations, and were impressed with the innovative science and high quality of the presentations.

Qianru Liao's presentation was titled, 'Decision-making During Migration: How Lake Melting and Freezing Affect the Water Crossing of Caribou in the High Arctic.' Qianru’s research is important to the field of biogeosciences because it advances understanding of how climate-driven changes in Arctic ice phenology affect animal movement and ecosystem connectivity, integrating remote sensing and ecological data to illuminate key links between physical landscape processes and biological responses.

Congratulations Qianru!
