Interaction section

‘Interaction’ is at the heart of the New Phytologist approach to science. An integrative philosophy pervades much of the research published, and this is nowhere clearer than in the direct interactions between plants and other organisms. Mycorrhizal biology is vital to the journal, and the newest editor to join the section, Iver Jakobsen, is testament to this commitment. Fungi also appear in the many papers related to interactions between plants and pathogens, and these two strands of interest will be brought together at the New Phytologist Trust’s Symposium in 2006, ‘Genomic approaches to fungal biology’ in association with the 9th International Fungal Biology Conference.

Basic questions relating to parasitism, plant-bacterial interactions, nutrition and the rhizospere, plant-animal interactions - these all enrich the section, have crossover with the other sections of the journal, and contribute to a depth of scholarship. This exciting range of topics is shown in the collection of papers highlighted below.

Symposium: Impact of genomics on fungal biology
The 16th New Phytologist Symposium will be held jointly with the 9th International Fungal Biology Conference in September 2006, Nancy, France, and organized by Francis Martin and Nick Talbot. Further details.
