The New Phytologist Trust provides small grants to assist innovation and advancement in plant science. Often this will be in the form of part-support/sponsorship of a scientific meeting or awards such as poster and lecture prizes. We also have a limited number of grants available to sponsor workshops; these will bring together a small number of scientists who wish to focus and brainstorm a particular topic or issue. The format of these workshops is intentionally flexible to suit a range of projects, but this might, for example, include a working group that intends to focus on analysing new data or indeed analysing old data in the light of new techniques and planning the way forward. The output from the workshop would be written up and submitted for publication to New Phytologist as a research manuscript or synthesis paper, or in some cases a position paper intended for the Forum section.

If you are interested in organising a New Phytologist Workshop, please complete the proposal pro forma and email this to the Managing Editor Holly Slater by the end of February.

Other small grant applications can be received at any time of year and there is no set pro forma for these.

Preliminary enquiries should be sent to Holly Slater

Please note that we do not provide travel grants to attend scientific conferences, other than for New Phytologist Symposia.
